REBECCA SPEAKS:  I recommend this supplement, one capsule morning and night, to help prevent kidney stone formation.

Potassium and magnesium citrate can be particularly helpful for people prone to kidney stones because citrate binds with calcium in the urine and helps inhibit the formation and growth of calcium-based crystals, including calcium oxalate stones. Citrate can also make the urine less favorable for certain types of stone formation, while magnesium can bind oxalate and further reduce its availability to form crystals with calcium. For this purpose, the citrate form is important—other forms of potassium or magnesium may provide those minerals nutritionally but do not supply the citrate that provides this particular stone-preventive effect.
