To increase appetite & assist digestion during seasons when the thought of eating doesn't hold much appeal.*
Rebecca Talks: These plants all contain liver and gallbladder supporting properties. Many times a lack of appetite can be connected with suboptimal liver function. "Bitters" - as traditionally known because they are, INDEED, bitter - can increase appetite. Think about how a green salad with bitter herbs often precedes the main course; the principle is the same. This is why bitters are taken in liquid form; the bitter taste is very important, signaling the digestive system that food is coming and making the appropriate preparations; i.e., production of hydrochloric acid, etc. In our modern society of fast food and "grabbing something quick," our digestive powers can suffer a blow; the smell of food being prepared and "tasting" during the cooking process usually takes at least an hour, sometimes much longer. The smells and tastes of food preparation prepare our bodies to finally sit down to a meal. Contrast this with the all-too-common drive-up window scenario!
Sometimes appetite temporarily wanes in response to life situations, illness, or convalescence. In these cases, a few drops of "bitters" may just be the ticket. Start with a lower dose and adjust as needed.
Suggested Use: Shake well. Within the hour prior to meals, add 1-4 ml (15-60 drops or approximately what comes into the dropper with one draw - it won't be full) to a small amount of water and drink.
Precautions: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Many medicinal plants possess blood-thinning properties, so be advised if using prescription blood thinning medications such as Coumadin.
