Supporting healthy sleep and bladder function in children.*
I first learned about the strategic combination of California poppy and horsetail for bedwetting from renowned herbalist Daniel Gagnon. He was presenting at a seminar I was attending several years ago, and his lecture was my very favorite of the entire symposium. His subject was the distinction between the various botanicals used for sleep and the nervous system; where and when one would be preferred over the other. For example, hops flowers are indicated when sleep difficulty is related to indigestion; skullcap when sleep difficulty is rooted in muscular tension. California poppy, he explained, is a sleep level regulator; it will bring too deep or too shallow a sleep to the appropriate level. Children who wet the bed are most likely to be the ones who, once asleep, won't wake up if a bomb goes off in the house. This super-deep level of sleep blocks out the bladder signal of having to "go." He recommended pairing California poppy with horsetail (Shavegrass), advising that a good six months might be necessary to achieve the desired result.
Suggested Use: Shake well. Add 1-3 ml (about 15 drops per ml) to a small amount of water or beverage and drink 15-30 minutes prior to bedtime. Allow about six months to achieve desired result. If you are concerned about the alcohol content, simply add the drops to a bit of water that has been boiled (do NOT use the microwave or the effects of the botanicals will be negatively altered!). Allow to sit for about 10 minutes; the alcohol will evaporate. Make sure the liquid is cool enough to drink before administering.
