Product Description
What is that?
Lion's Mane, Pom Pom, Bear's Head or Monkey head is a "Tooth Fungi". This is because the spore bearing surface is made of toothlike icicles as opposed to gills or pores. It is a mushroom that grows on stumps or logs of primarily hardwood. It can be on living or dead trees and grows from July to October in the Northeastern United States.
Where does it come from?
This mushroom has been found in North America, Europe, Northern Japan, and other parts of the world. It has been hailed in many parts of the world for its texture and flavor resembles crab or lobster meat. It is grown in China for expensive restaurants and gourmet markets as well as for its health properties.
Why is it good for me?
This Mushroom has been referred to as "Nature's Nutrient for the Neurons" due to the active compounds (aromatic hericenones) which may be linked to production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). These molecules are small enough to travel through the blood-brain barrier intact. NGF is most researched for its neurological roles in the body but also has been known to have insulinotropic, angiogenic, and antioxidant properties. Lion's Mane promotes and supports healthy brain function, brain tissue, nerves, and synapses. Historically it has been used to support normal gastrointestinal function.
